Welcome to L’areeva Dance Academy® we provide a vast range of different style dance classes from Classical Ballet, Commercial Street Dance, Acrobatics, Musical Theatre and many more for boys and girls aged 3 years to 16 years, situated in Bournville & Selly Oak, Birmingham UK. We also offer opportunity to take IDTA international recognised syllabus dance exams, stage performance and competitions.
Our mission is to deliver a fun hobby that can also lead and equip pupils towards a successful and fulfilling career in the world of TV, dance and performing arts entertainment industry. We inspire confidence, knowledge motivation and positivity.
Principals Sherene Flash and Sarah Mahon created and run L’areeva Dance Academy, utilizing their skills and professional experience enabling them to give the best possible technique, training and education.
Classes
We provide The IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) grade syllabus.
L’areeva Dance Academy® established 9 years ago achieving 100% examination pass rate throughout.
To increase understanding and improve levels of progression we encourage pupils to enter grade syllabus dance examinations which also contribute towards university points. All graded syllabus/classes provide a practical dance education developing technique, musicality and performance skills.
Twirly Tots
Twirly Tots
3 – 4years, This 1 hour class is an introduction to Ballet, Tap, Acro and Modern Jazz.
Ballet
Classical Ballet
This classical style of expressive movement for pleasure or for the more serious-minded has something to offer for everyone. Known for discipline, technique, elegance and grace, ballet IS the foundation of all dance. It is highly recommended that all pupils study this as their first subject to enable them to move into other genres of dance to obtain essential technique.
(Swan lake, The nutcracker, Giselle and Romeo and Juliet, highlight some of the greatest ballets)
Tap
Tap
A gentle, rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit! Tap is rhythm, sound, coordination, syncopation, musicality and timing.
(42nd Street, Crazy For You, Stomp and Tap Dogs, highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping)
Modern
Modern Jazz
Is energetic and fun! It is a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members. It involves elaborate footwork, powerful large leaps, rapid turns and imaginative improvisation to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles.
(A few examples that feature modern/jazz are the musicals, Chicago, Mary Poppins, Hairspray, Grease and Fame)
Commercial Street
Commercial Street Dance
Constantly evolving this lively and enjoyable diverse form of dance covers many genres of dance styles and music encouraging interaction with others. The hip-hop dance style B-boying and the funk-style Popping and Locking are some of the most popular Street dance styles. Choreographed dance routines are created along with opportunities to use freedom of expression (freestyle) to develop and enhance your own style.
(Think’ Diversity- Ashley Banjo, MTV music videos- Beyoncé and Bruno Mars, Concerts- Little Mix and One Direction)
Acrobatics
Acrobatics
This fun popular class is a way for pupils to learn gymnastic-based tricks. Acrobatic dance routines incorporate acrobatic movement into elegant flowing routines, with creative, expressive lifts and poses and builds a great bond and trust between fellow team members. Acro requires flexibility, balance, strength, technique and coordination- stretching makes your muscles looser and also helps to slowly lengthen them over time.
(A few examples that illustrate acrobatics are, gymnastics floor routine, circus and cirque du soleil)
Lyrical
Lyrical Contemporary
Is an expressive dance style of soft fluid dance movements although can also be strong and sharp encouraging expression of feeling through music and dance enabling creative freedom. This dance style combines elements of several dance genres including ballet, jazz and acrobatics while still maintaining its autonomy.
(Most professional dance companies study and perform contemporary dance- eg; Royal Ballet, Rambert and Alvin Ailey)
Singing
Singing/Musical Theatre
Vocal lessons developing technique in Classical, Musical Theatre, Folk and Pop.
(Think’ Theatre, Film, TV Series and Commercials- sky’s the limit!)
Stage
Stage
Opportunities to gain performance experience. The atmosphere, stage lights, make-up and costumes is all very exciting for the children, the bond they build and memories created is worth every second!
